Electrolysis is way too expensive.  This process of using a metal probe-like instrument to pass electrical currents through to the hair follicle destroying the hair follicle takes a considerable amount of time and is very tedious.  Not to mention the fact that it is reported to be very painful.  But, this process does stand above all the rest mentioned thus far in long-term effectiveness.

So, is laser hair removal a better option?  I suppose it depends on the wants, needs, expectations, and budget of the wanting consumer.  Here's the deal. Laser hair removal is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses laser light to remove unwanted hair.  It works by passing an intense beam of light through the skin targeting dark pigment called melanin, in the hair.  When the light beam hits the hair follicle, the heat destroys the hair follicle leading to the eventual slowing of the re-growth of the hair.  It's important to note, however, that it does take several treatments before you will truly be hair free…more than likely for only an extended period of time, not necessarily permanently.  That period of time can last for months or years with multiple treatments.

Did you know that hair color and skin type influence the success of the laser hair removal treatments?  If you have dark hair and light skin, you will have the most success.  If you are tan or have a darker skin tone, the laser gets absorbed by the pigment in the skin and doesn't reach the hair follicle.  This limits the effect of the treatment and may actually damage the skin. The procedure doesn't seem to work very well on people with naturally lighter haired people.  Their hair contains little melanin which is what the laser targets.
